There is a new girl volunteering at the shelter. ~~I never thought it was possible that Momoshiro was a species or a breed rather than one singular moron. But she seems to be the female variant.~~ She's been coming every day for a week and I can't stand her. She keeps manhandling the animals and getting down and making stupid faces at them when she should be cleaning, and cross-contaminating between cats and dogs and different rooms. ~~She also keeps asking me really uncomfortable questions~~.

Who in their right mind decided Savannah cats are a good idea? Ours has decided he prefers being walked with the dogs (wild cat my ass, he wears a leash). Oh, and that though he's 20lb he can still sit in our laps. I managed to find our Birman a home - her name is now Pearl and she lives with an elderly couple whose cat passed away two weeks ago.

If those kids don't get off the lawn - *opens the window* HEY, DAMN KIDS, GET OFF MY LAWN!

Yuuta, we've got two dogs I've never seen before. Either they've started reproducing by mitosis or our dogs are spreading the word that there's an every day buffet at our place.

Another cat has joined the ranks. She's 3 and healthy and her owners wanted to put her down because they were going abroad and couldn't find a home fast enough. It's a colourpoint, but no particular breed - if I had to put her closest to one it'd be a Birman. She'll have a good home here but she's very shy and I'd rather she not have to live with so many dogs, so if anyone's interested, it's also posted up on the surgery noticeboard.

We're getting returns.

That labrador puppy someone got for their kid for Christmas began to get a bit too big, or the kitten their kid begged for's claws are actually beginning to get sharp and they don't want to bother with Soft Paws.

20 returns so far.

20 returns that have to be retagged, checked, 6 of them are now old enough to be neutered/spayed, we have some others boarding in kennels because we don't have room.

And Kanako-san's trying to get planning permission for an extension.

And Two needs another trip to the vet.

I hate Christmas!

WHY DO WE EVEN CELEBRATE this MORONIC holiday? Commercialism - fine. Romance - fine! I don't care. What I do care about is the ridiculous influx of idiots at work wanting puppies and kittens for Christmas.

We've been trotting out this "Pets are for life, not just for Christmas" slogan for years and nobody listens!

Stupid questions I have been asked over the last week:

1. Eight weeks is too old. Can I have one of those smaller ones? No. Those kittens are a week old. They haven't been weaned. Aside from which, kittens can easily find homes. Stop being a bastard and get a cat instead.

2. How long is it okay to leave her in a box under the tree? ZERO SECONDS.
(i) What if I punch air holes in the box? How would YOU like to be shut into a box for a few hours? NO MEANS NO!
(ii) I figure I could hide her in the wardrobe... ARE YOU LISTENING TO YOURSELF?!

3. Can I return it if she doesn't like it? Yes. But. FOR GOD'S SAKE IT'S A LIVING CREATURE. Have you really considered the responsibility of taking care of a pet?

4. Can I train it to attack on sight? YOU THINK I'M GOING TO LET YOU THE FUCK NEAR A DOG?!

We're going to see at LEAST half of those pets back after a month, some of them half-starved, and I don't even want to think about some of the ones that don't come back to us.
